Mount Bromo is located in Indonesia, the "Land of a Thousand Islands".
There are more than 4,500 volcanoes in the multi-island country of Indonesia, and three of the world's ten most renowned active volcanoes are located there.
These volcanic landscapes have been properly planned by the Indonesian government, either as protected areas or as national parks.
Mount Bromo is a famous tourist attraction in Indonesia's East Java region that combines natural beauty and unique ethnic customs and is popular among domestic and foreign tourists.
It is one of the three active volcanoes on Mount Tenggol, located in the Borama-Denggol-Smaru Mountain National Park, about 150 kilometres southwest of Surabaya and 2,393 meters high.
Mount Tengger is like a garden cone with its top cut off, forming a large terrace with a high edge and a low centre, 9 km wide from north to south and 10 km long from east to west, and within the terrace is a sea of sand formed by the eruption of Mount Bengal in the past.
There are three active volcanoes in the sea of sand, one of which is Mount Bromo.
The most attractive view of Mount Bromo is when the red sun comes out of the east. The hike is done on foot or horseback in the early morning. In the afternoon, the summit of Bromo is already tinted with gold.
Bromo is also a strange structure of large volcanoes over small ones. Its huge outer volcano, the ancient Tengger volcano, was created about 820,000 years ago.
The landscape has undergone five major changes over the past few hundred thousand years.
At its peak, the volcano reached a height of 4,500 meters, making it the highest peak in Java. After the collapse of the ancient Tengger volcano, a huge outer crater with a diameter of 16 km was formed, which is very impressive.
