The Cricket World Cup is a major event in the British Commonwealth Games.

Ten countries will participate in the tournament, with Australia having won the most titles in the past. However, England, the previous champions, are eager to defend their title at the World Cup.

The World Cup cricket tournament commences on October 5.

The championship match will be held on November 19th. The highly-awaited clash between India and Pakistan is scheduled for October 15, and the 130,000-seat Modi Stadium is anticipated to be jam-packed.

The participating teams in the World Cup include India, Pakistan, England, New Zealand, Australia, Afghanistan, South Africa, and Bangladesh.

Apart from India, the World Cup will also feature preliminary matches in ten cities, including Delhi and Mumbai, with at least five matches to be played in each city, except for Hyderabad, which will host three matches.

The World Cup will adopt a league format, with the top four teams advancing to the final at the end of the season.

Cricket is a team sport played by two teams, each consisting of eleven players. It originated in England and later spread throughout the United Kingdom. The game's aim is to outscore the opposing team by accumulating more runs.

The World Cup Cricket is held every four years, with the inaugural World Cup taking place in England in June 1975.

The current edition is hosted by India, marking the first time that India hosts it exclusively. In the past, it has been co-hosted with other countries.

In 2019, England emerged as the champions. However, Australia holds the record for the most titles won, with five championships since the inaugural edition in 1975, including a treble from 1999 to 2007.

The current format consists of a qualification phase conducted over the first three years to determine the teams that qualify for the Championship phase.

In the Championship Stage, ten teams, including the host country, which automatically qualifies, compete for the title at the host country's venue over approximately one month. The 2027 edition will see a change in format to accommodate an expanded 14-team final.

In the eleven editions of the tournament, a total of 20 teams have participated, with 10 competing in the most recent 2019 edition.

Australia has secured the title five times, while India and West Indies have each won twice. Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and England have each won once. Kenya's remarkable semi-final run in the 2003 tournament remains the best performance by an unofficial member team.
